Poster Presentation Guidelines

Components of a poster
The following components should be included in a poster and used as headings where appropriate:

  • Title
  • Name and address of author(s)
  • Objectives
  • Methods or study design
  • Results
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgements

Pictures and Graphs
All pictures, graphs, or charts should be at least 10 in. (20.3 cm) by 8 in. (25.4 cm) in size. Present one idea per picture or graph, and include only important supporting information. Make maximum use of graphs, charts, pictures while keeping text to a minimum.
Use of color in poster presentations makes effective visual communications. Therefore, whenever possible, use color photographs or graphs, and/or colored displays.

Lettering
The approximate sizes of lettering should be as follows:
Title and author’s name: 1 ½ in. (28 mm)
Author’s affiliation and headings: ¾ in. (19 mm)
Text: 5/16 in. (8 mm)
Captions for graphs, charts, pictures: ¼ in. (6.4 mm)

Lettering of the sizes noted permits the posters to be readable from a distance of 5-6 ft (1.5 – 1.8 m) from the poster panel.

Handouts
Copies of your abstract in A4 Format should accompany the poster. Printouts can be neatly placed on the floor beneath the poster panel, if no special pocket is provided with the poster panel.

Poster panel dimensions
Each poster will be allocated a panel measuring Height: 150 cm and Width: 94 cm (portrait orientation) (compulsory). Please note that posters in landscape orientation or exceeding these measurements cannot be presented. Symposium organisers advise you to bring your own tape for mounting your poster.
