Hypertension and the Kidney
November 29 - December 2, 2007
Vienna, Austria

A Letter of Welcome from your Co-Chairs

On behalf of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), we are delighted to invite you to attend the second in the series of ISN’s new generation of symposia: Nexus - Linking Research to Practice.

Building on the success of the first Nexus on "The Bone and the Kidney" (October 12-15, 2006 in Copenhagen, Denmark), "Hypertension and the Kidney", November 29 - December 2, 2007, Vienna, Austria, is set to convene and intermingle an eminent group of nephrologists, hypertensiologists, cardiologists and endocrinologists.

Providing an ideal opportunity to update, review and discuss the kidney’s causal role in hypertension leading to end-stage organ damage and kidney failure, this forthcoming Nexus meeting will review Arthur C. Guyton’s “infinite gain” theory supporting the notion that the kidney’s role in fluid volume regulation determines the level of blood pressure in the long-term.

In alignment with the unique format of the Nexus symposia, the program will incorporate a series of specially selected plenary lectures (in tribute to Guyton's work), three basic and clinical scientific sessions running in parallel to report and present cutting edge discovery, followed by the insightful translational sessions. Offered to research scientists, physicians and clinicians alike these timely sessions are designed to close the bench to bedside gap by signposting future directions and concrete solutions in research, patient treatment and care.

To be presented by an inspiring panel of first class speakers, core session topics will include RAAS and Cardiovascular Risk, the translational value of Guyton’s Concept in 2007, the Proteomics of Renal Exosomes, the Developmental Origins of Adult Disease, Proteinuria and Hypertension, Salt-Regulating Effectors, Circadian Control of the Internal Milieu, Diuretics Revisited, New Methods and Directions.

As symposium Co-Chairs, we look forward to welcoming you, your colleagues and peers to the spectacular city of Vienna for three and a half days of discourse, debate and exchange of the highest degree.
